    Insects that usually cause sensitivity and allergy in people include bees, ants and ticks; However, being bitten by other species of insects also causes severe allergic reactions in humans in some cases.
    In Iran, the most common cause of allergy or sensitivity to insect stings is being stung by different species of bees.

  • Honey bee: It is the most well-known bee. There are different types of honey bees, including: small honey bee, large honey bee, Indian honey bee, red honey bee, or European honey bee.
  • Yellow jacket: It is a type of honeyless bee that has a size similar to a normal bee and has a social life and high flight speed. The female of this species of bee has a painful sting. Most of these types of bees make nests on the ground or in the cracks of the walls.
  • Paper Wasp: Another type of wasp that has a social life. They have a slim, long body and a very narrow waist. This species of bees make their nests under trees, house porches and next to windows.
  • Red bee (cow, date): Red or cow bees are one of the largest and most widespread types of social honeyless bees. This type of bees can be seen frequently in the central and southern regions.

Prevention of allergies and sensitivity to insect bites

  • When you are in nature, never leave open the lid of canned foods or containers containing food in general! Because food, especially aromatic and sweet food attracts bees and other insects to your place of residence.
  • The lid of the bin containing wet waste should not be left open.
  • If the windows are open to use the air outside the house, especially in spring, summer and early autumn, you should equip the windows with a suitable net to prevent insects from entering the house.
  • If you live in the open environment or in nature, you should cover as much as possible the open and uncovered areas of your skin with appropriate clothing.
  • Using insecticides to control ants or other insects can be an effective and appropriate way to reduce insect bites at home or in the workplace.
  • Avoid wearing sandals or walking with bare feet in newly planted lawns.
  • Never hit flying insects. Try to gently guide them from the inside environment to the outside environment.
  • Never use drinks with open lids! Insects are usually attracted to sweet foods.
  • If you want to eat food outdoors or in nature, be sure to keep the lid of food containers closed all the time.
  • The lid of containers containing leftover and discarded food should be closed.
  • When you are working or staying outdoors, it is better not to use perfume, essential oil, cologne or hair sprays with a sweet smell. Normally, insects, especially types of bees, are often attracted to aromatic and sweet smells!
  • It is better not to wear clothes with bright colors. Normally, insects are often attracted to bright colors!
  • Gardening and working in the green space should be done with caution. Wearing shoes or boots as well as gloves can significantly reduce the possibility of being bitten by insects.
  • Keep the windows of your rooms or your car closed as much as possible.
  • In families where there is a person sensitive to insect bites, it is appropriate to always have medicines available for emergencies and severe allergic reactions.
