Cold compress and hives

Hives and cold

If the hives are very itchy, you can use a cold water compress to relieve the itching.

Eye allergy and cold compress

If you have allergies, use a cold water compress or wash your face with cold water to close the capillaries.

Cold compress mechanism

Cold temperatures help constrict blood vessels and stop the release of histamine. This in turn will relieve swelling, inflammation and itching.

Wrap some ice cubes in a cloth. Leave it on the affected skin for 10 minutes at a time, and repeat this process three to four times a day. You can also take a cold shower to soothe your skin that is inflamed due to hives.

Tip: Never put ice directly on the skin.
