Insect Bites

Necessary measures to prevent insect bites

Insects inside buildings and rooms should be destroyed by constant and regular use of insecticides that are available in the form of sprays or tapes that are impregnated with insecticides.

Families who keep pets at home should be aware that various insects that live on the animal’s skin may rise from the animal and land on the child’s skin. Therefore, keeping domestic animals at home should be accompanied by the observance of animal health.

If there are many trees in the residence of a family, because various insects live in the cracks of trees and plants, they should send the child outside to play or exercise while wearing a long white or pale blue dress.

In areas where there are many insects, rubbing medicine on the child’s skin will keep insects away. But it should be noted that constant rubbing of these substances will cause sensitivity and rashes.

Flies and mosquitoes

The bites of these annoying insects may cause you discomfort. So do the following:

Disinfect the bite site: flies and mosquitoes can spread diseases. Therefore, wash the bite site thoroughly with soap and water and use an antiseptic.

Apply aspirin to the bite: Some doctors recommend an unusual treatment with aspirin to stop the inflammation. As soon as the bug bites, wet your skin and apply an aspirin tablet on it. This should not be done in those who are sensitive to aspirin.

Get rid of itching : Bites from flies and mosquitoes cause severe swelling and itching that can last for three or four days. In these cases, follow the recommendations below:

– Oral antihistamine.

Calamine solution.

– Ice packs.

– baking soda; Dissolve a teaspoon of it in a glass of water, put a piece of cloth in the solution and keep it on the bite site for 15-20 minutes.

Be serious about prevention : You may be able to prevent insect bites. So remember that the warmer the weather, the more active mosquitoes and flies are. In particular, mosquitoes are more numerous in wet areas such as reservoirs and marshes. Some of them also gather around the lamp outside the house in the evenings.

Thiamine chloride (a type of vitamin B): It is taken orally. This vitamin B repels insects by being in the skin; Of course, this substance may cause itching, hives and redness in some people.

Bath oil : Some bath oils have a repellent effect.

Zinc : Some doctors recommend a daily intake of at least 60 mg of zinc as a natural repellent. Of course, you should know that it takes at least a month for the effect of zinc to be created in your body.

• Tick and bed bug bites

Some types of these insects transmit infection and their bites contain bacteria that cause a disease called Lyme disease or another disease called mountain spotted fever in humans.

What to do after being bitten by insects?

Remove the insect from the bite site with your fingernails or hair.

If the insect itself or the venom sac is on the skin, remove it from the bite site without pressing and crushing the insect or venom sac. Because if the insect is crushed or pressure is applied to its venom sac, more venom enters the skin.

To reduce the pain, put some ice on the bite site or wet a clean cloth with cold water and place it on the bite site, the said pain will decrease after a few minutes.

To prevent itching, soak a cotton ball in calamine softening solutions and place it on the bite site.

If the bite site is swollen and itchy. Because oral antihistamine drugs reduce swelling and itching, it can be used.

Sometimes, when the insect venom comes into contact with the body skin, a blister will form at the contact site, and the child will feel a strong burning sensation at the blister site. In such a situation, applying ammonia solution to the blister area will neutralize the blister liquid and applying the ointment will reduce pain and irritation.

To prevent infection, the bite site should be washed with disinfectant or soap. To get rid of the itching of the bite, make a paste of starch and baking soda and put it on the bite or apply calamine solution to the bite. If there are multiple bites, the doctor usually prescribes an antihistamine drug that has an anti-itching effect. Parents can give their child a spoonful of antihistamine syrup before going to sleep.

Self-help:

1- In forested or grassy areas, wear shoes, long pants with ankles tucked into socks, and long-sleeved blouses.

2- Clean your living area of leaves and debris and leave the pieces of wood in a sunny place.

3- Check and change your clothes carefully after every walk in the forest, take a shower immediately because the tick stays on the skin for several hours before biting. Check your pet carefully.

4- Use insect repellants such as DEET or Permethrin according to the instructions on the box.

5- If you find a tick or bedbug, use tweezers to grab it from the head or mouth area and remove it from the skin. Be careful not to squeeze or crush it. Use antiseptic ointment in place.

6- If you get hives or if you feel unwell, take the biting tick or bug to the doctor’s office.

7- To get rid of ticks or bedbugs, either burn them or bury them, or pour plenty of water on them in a flushed toilet.

ticks

It doesn’t matter to the tick which animal provides its food. Humans are good food for this insect.

If one of these insects sticks to you, you can do the following:

Remove the bug : Ticks can sink their tiny jaws into the skin and hold onto it at the cost of their lives. Trying to remove this insect, like trying to remove a fly, is of no use, and if we try to kill this insect by force, the mouthparts of this insect remain in the skin and cause infection.

Gently pull out the tick with tweezers. Be careful not to do this too quickly. If unsuccessful, hold a lighted match behind the tick, the heat may dislodge the tick. If tweezers are not available to you, you can try one of the following methods:

Stimulate it : you can use nail polish or paraffin drops. These substances cause the tiny respiratory pores of the tick to close.

Try the Benfredo method : take a large needle and heat it with a flame. Place the flat side of the knife blade under the tick’s abdomen and place the tip of the hot needle behind the animal, so that the insect is roasted between the knife and the needle. When the insect’s legs begin to move due to the heat, turn the knife blade ninety degrees so that the tick is standing on its head. Keeping the same position as before, pull the insect up from the attachment point.

Clean the area thoroughly : Once you have removed the tick, wash the bite area with soap and water. Then use iodine or other disinfectants to prevent infection.

Be alert : Although the highest number of ticks is in early summer, these insects are dangerous from early spring to fall. Whenever you go to the forested areas or even the hills full of plants, remember the following precautions:

– If you want to find out if there are ticks in an area, tie a white cloth with thread and roll it between plants and bushes, if there are ticks, it will stick to the cloth.

– Cover your skin completely if you are going to an area full of ticks.

– Check your body carefully before going to bed. Some species of this insect are very small and may be out of your sight.
