Common allergenic grasses 

Poaceae or Gramineae or wheat family or grass family is a family of plants that are sometimes called grass. Some members of this large family of plants or grasses are important sources of allergens caused by pollen.
This family is the fifth largest plant family with 780 genera and about 12,000 species. Different species of this family have spread all over the world, and in Iran, many species of the grass family (Poaceae) grow abundantly in different pastures and fields. It is worth mentioning that the wheat family or chamanian family is considered as the most important plant family in the country’s economy (as edible seeds, grains and fodder). 

Bermuda grass

Farsi name: chicken paw grass
Scientific name: Cynodon dactylon
Common English name: Bermuda grass   
Distribution: This grass belongs to the Poaceae family and is known as a type of grass. Chicken paw grass grows abundantly in tropical and subtropical regions of Iran.  
Pollination period: summer and autumn. Of course, depending on the geographical location, pollination of the plant may start from spring and continue until autumn.

Lolium grass (Rye grass)

Persian name: chaman, checham, Lolium grass,
scientific name: Lolium Spp.   
Common English name: Rye grass.   
Distribution: This grass belongs to the Poaceae family and its species are used as grass for designing green spaces. Lolium grass grows abundantly in different regions of Iran.  
Pollination period: late spring to early summer

Orchard grass

Persian name: Orchard grass
, scientific name: Dactylis Spp.
Common English name: cat grass, Cock’s grass, Orchard grass.  
Distribution: The common species of this plant, D. glomerata, grows in different regions of Iran, including the eastern, northern and western regions.  
Pollination period: from June to July 

Sorghum or Johnson grass

Persian name: Sorghum, Qiyaq, Chair.
Scientific name: Sorghum Spp.
Common English name: Johnson grass.  
Distribution: The most common type of sorghum in Iran is S. halepense. This type of herbaceous plant has been observed in different regions of Iran and is known as one of the common weeds in fields.
Pollination period: usually from June to September. Of course, based on geographical location and weather conditions, the pollination period may change slightly.

Kentucky blue grass

Persian name: Pasture grass
Scientific name: Poa pratensis 
English common name: Kentucky blue grass 
Distribution: In general, different species of Poa genus are widely distributed in the country. The species of this type of grass can be seen in many pastures and meadows in different parts of the country. Another common species of this herbaceous plant, P. bulbosa, is distributed in different regions of Iran.
Pollination period: from late spring to early summer

Timothy grass

Persian name: Meadow cat’s tail.
Scientific name: Phleum pratense. 
Common English name: Timothy grass.
Distribution: Meadow cat’s tail is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Poaceae family, which is native to the European continent. The name Timothy is derived from the American farmer Timothy Hansen, who introduced this plant in the 18th century as a suitable feed source for livestock in the form of dry fodder in the United States. The most abundant growth of this plant in Iran is related to the northern provinces.
