Allergy to pets

Especially in the last decade, we have seen an increase in the keeping of pets, such as dogs, cats, mice, hamsters, all kinds of birds, or aquatic animals such as fish, turtles, etc. But to what extent are these animals and animals allergenic? Apart from the health issue, from the point of view of allergies ,
each group of animals, whether on land or sea, have different degrees and methods to cause allergies, which we will discuss below.
It is the strongest and most durable allergen among pets. Its skin, hair, saliva, and even its urine are highly allergenic for people prone to allergies.
The more cats there are in the house, the higher the risk of allergies. The durability and survival of its allergen in the environment is very high due to its adhesion and aerodynamic properties, so that even if this animal leaves the house for 3 to 6 months, when a susceptible person is present, allergy symptoms such as sneezing, itchy nose, runny nose, or shortness of breath may still occur. update
It is possible to diagnose cat allergy by an allergy specialist and by skin test.

Ways of control

  1. Complete removal from the bedroom or, if possible, from the house
  2. Washing the animal weekly
  3. Use a vacuum cleaner
  4. Using air purifiers equipped with HEPA filters, which are used in most air purifiers today
  5. Finally, if people are dependent on this animal, desensitization by an allergy specialist using Immunotherapy method

Allergy to dogs

Dogs also cause allergies like cats, but less severely. Body dander, saliva, and urine of this animal create suspended proteins in the air that enter the respiratory tract and eventually cause allergies.
The more dogs there are in the house, the more allergens will accumulate.
This rate has nothing to do with the length or shortness of the dog’s hair or the rate of shedding of the dog’s hair, and it doesn’t matter what breed it is (short haired or full haired).

Dog allergy diagnosis

Allergy to birds

Keeping all kinds of birds, including pigeons, parrots, canaries, lovebirds, roosters, chickens, etc., can potentially cause allergies in a susceptible person. Feathers, mites or feathers in their wings and feathers, serum and even their excrement can cause allergies and several respiratory diseases.

These problems include :

  1. Nasal allergy in the form of sneezing, nasal itching, nasal congestion
  2. Asthma, especially pigeon fancier’s asthma
  3. Hypersensitivity pneumonitis
  4. Fungal asthma (Asthma Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis

Ways of diagnosis :
The history of these people is telling, and when they encounter or approach the place where these birds are kept, they experience respiratory symptoms. Finally, the diagnosis is made by an allergy specialist and a skin test with feathers and mites.

 Prevention :

  1. Failure to maintain by a susceptible person
  2. Keeping away, including placing outside
  3. When entering the storage area, an effective mask with a HEPA filter must be used
  4. Changing clothes for people whose job is keeping and raising birds
  5. If necessary, immunotherapy with feathers and mites

Allergy to fish and turtle

Most of the houses keep this type of animals. They are perhaps the most painless type of pets in terms of causing allergies, because they do not have allergens to disperse in the environment, but some points should be observed in this regard:

  1. The size of the aquarium should be chosen according to the living space; This means that a large 3-meter aquarium should not be kept in a small hall.
  2. To prevent the creation of fungi in the environment, use an air purifier equipped with a HEPA filter.
  3. The aquarium should not be placed in the bedroom.
