Asthma in Bakers

Occupational asthma of bakers

There is a direct relationship between occupational asthma and exposure to allergens in the air, and naturally, asthma and allergies are aggravated by exposure to allergens.

Inhalation of wheat flour can cause respiratory sensitivities, including asthma, which usually develops and gradually increases in people who suffer from it after a long period of exposure to flour. These symptoms appear mildly at first and appear only when the baker is at work, but gradually with the progress of the disease, its intensity increases and even when the baker is not at work and has no contact with the flour, symptoms occur. It is possible that finally the baker has a specific occupational asthma and needs his own treatment.

Allergy to bread flour

In a profession like baking, where bakers are constantly exposed to dust caused by flour spread in the air, asthma and allergies are more common.

After carrying and moving the bags of flour in the bakery and using the flour when baking bread, small particles of it are suspended in the air and these particles that stick to the hands and face of the baker are called flour round.

These particles cause sensitivities for some bakers. Allergy or sensitivity that can be accompanied by burning eyes and throat, sneezing and runny nose and even make some bakers suffer from asthma
